For the third time in less than a calendar year Shinedown returned to Pennsylvania in support of their latest release 'Planet Zero.' The album has taken the band to new record setting heights on the rock radio charts and led to sold out shows across the world on 'The Revolutions Live Tour.'
The past 10 years of rock n' roll have belonged to Shinedown and truly no one else as the band has continued to dominate the charts and ticket sales for every tour they've hit the road with. Not only has the band outshined all of their peers in the genre they also gone on to sell well over 10 million records during the time, Shinedown has made history by moving even further into the #1 position on the Billboard Charts for Rock Artists with singles reaching the #1 position. On the day the band was set to perform for a packed house in Wilkes Barre, PA at the Mohegan Sun Arena they announced that their latest single "Dead Don't Die" had officially gone number one making it their 20th single to achieve the prestigous ranking. Shinedown are currently on the third leg of the 'The Revolution's Live Tour' and are showing no signs of slowing down as nearly every performance has been sold out or down to very limited tickets. There was really no denying that the release of 'Planet Zero' in 2022 was going to mark a huge milestone in the band's career but it truly has launched them even further than anyone could have imagined.
Shinedown has had the same revolutionary stage production out with them on the road since the beginning of the tour in 2022 - this leg saw the band update the pre-show video with tons of news clips of them both on and off stage from over the past year on the road. However the vibe quickly switched into show mode as an updated version of cryptic alien symbols took over the screen, an AI appeared and the Mohegan Sun Arena was taken from 2023 and transported to "Planet Zero." As they have all tour Shinedown emerged from behind their video wall but this year they mixed things up a bit as they kicked the show with a long time fan favorite "Diamond Eyes."
Through 19 songs Shinedown reminded the massive crowd exactly how they became the best and most important rock band of the century - their artistry and raw talent. The band has reached a point where they truly do have too many songs to choose from as so many songs translate well into their live show. While fans have some to expect certain mainstay songs in the list there is always a bit of unpredictably as to what songs the band might routine in and out which keeps each tour fresh for both them and the fans. The current 'Revolutions Live Tour' saw the band find a solid mix of commercial singles, fan favorites and stellar deep cuts that weren't on performed during the previous tours. One new addition to the setlist this time around was a stunning performance of "A Symptom of Being Human" that both showcased Brent Smith's incredible vocal range as well as provided an amazing moment as fans lit the arena with their lights and cell phones.
Through out the entire Brent Smith yet again delivered a masterful vocal performance alongside he performance partner in crime Zach Myers on guitar. The duo captivated the crowd as they spent a lot of time on the massive stage feeding off each other's energy. Smith made the rounds often back to Eric Bass on bass Barry Kerch back on drums as well through out the night. All the while Smith reminded the crowd exactly how they've gotten to the point in the career that they have 20 number one singles on the rock charts. It's been said before and with each passing hit and live performance it becomes clearer that Shinedown's fans are living in an era where they get to be a part of the history of what may go down as the best rock band of all time.
Shinedown has nothing left to prove at this point in their career and they haven't for awhile. Artistically their musically has never been stronger and the live performances have continued to grow more legendary with each tour as they have truly embraced their title "best rock band of all time." The craziest part about that is that they aren't done yet as they have entered the most creative and innovate era of their legacy. 'Planet Zero' took Shinedown to a whole new world of success, whatever is coming next may just take them to a whole new galaxy as the band certainly gets ready for the jump from arena's to stadiums in the near future. Shinedown continues to impress and the show at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania was just another line item in a historic career that has no end in sight.
